The New House

Now the basement has finally finished being dug, we are making good progress on the new house!

Waiting for approvals for the works, alone took 9 months! The digging went on for longer than expected but now that part is finally complete and we are getting on with all the other stuff!

Originally the layout of the flat was a bit strange. The master bedroom was next to the living room. Our plan was to shuffle things around and have an open plan living room and kitchen. In order to do this, we replaced the master bedroom with the kitchen area. Since I spend most of the time in the kitchen and Francesco, in the living room, it was the most social option to have the two things together. And what used to be the kitchen will now be my studio.

For the whole of February, Francesco's parents were here working on the house and many things have been done but still there is so much more left to do before we can move in.

We we given the keys to the flat 17 months ago so it has been a long wait...

If all goes well, we should be able to move in end of March or the beginning of April.

And then I can finally start setting up the Suki Studio!

Do you see my new brick wall on the left? Or friend Andrea finished putting it up this week. I like it!

Monster Art Pack

Today I tired out one of the packs myself.  It was fun, kept me busy for a couple of hours, however I did find it difficult to decide what to do at first!

I had my sister test out my product but I needed to test it out myself. I sewed, glued and drew with a sharpie. Sharpies are perfect for this!

Painting with acrylics would also work well.

I am really curious to see what other people create with their Suki Art Packs.

Happy Valentines Day!

I made love meatballs and linguine for our valentines dinner! :)

Every meatball was carefully shaped into a love heart. In total, the whole meal took me 2.5 hours to cook! A lot of love went into this :) And after frying them, some were unrecognisable as hearts!

Before all the hard work of making love meatballs, I made a new cat donut for an order.

Suki Pack Test

It has been over a week or so since I have used my sewing machine. Last night I had an urge to make something, but I wanted to do something different.

I made a plain, simple, Suki, gave it eyes. I made a selection of various different fabrics, long fur, short fur, fleece, ribbon, pom pom and chenille stem. I packed up everything nicely and gave it to my sister to do whatever she wanted.

Naomi really enjoyed her test pack. She was happily playing with it while I made dinner. And the result was funny. :)

I will be testing a few more out before making some packs available.

New House - Floor Boards and Bricks

The new brick wall

The new flat really is coming along nicely! Francesco started putting down boards and its looking great! Also its the only part above the basement, I feel safe on. Now that it is not just a big hole, it really feels like progress is being made. Once all the boards are in place so there is a floor and stairs, it will eventually begin to look like a home!

We bought reclaimed bricks to replace the old ones. We do like bricks! Our wall is at an angle so we had to remove the old bricks to make the correction. There are still plenty of things we still need to decide on but the overall look we are going for is rustic and modern. Today we were discussing the location of the radiators in the living room.

Already we have bought, our granite surface, the kitchen sink, cooker hobs, stairs and wooden floors. We still have to decide on the taps, oven, fridge and washing machine. Everything thing else, will come slowly. There are so many things to think about!

My Orchid Plant - New Year, New Shoot!

I am incredibly excited about the appearance of this new shoot!

It is only 6cm and looks a little bit like an asparagus.

This was a birthday gift from Francesco last year. Orchids are one of my favourite flowers and this plant arrived with many beautiful flowers that lasted for almost 3 months. Then one by one, they slowly shriveled and dropped off, until there was just the stalk left. Then eventually the stalk grew brown and I kept trimming it, until there was no long any stalk to trim.

Francesco said we will just get a new plant, but I had faith! The leaves were healthy, even new ones grew and new roots also appeared. It was just flowerless but everything else was in great shape!

There were some nervous feeling towards the survival of this orchid. I had one before when I was living in Amsterdam. I htought I was soing it a favour my removing all the dry park and re-housing it in a new pot full of nice, soft, nutrious soil. But that killed it! Orchids do not grow in soil!

So far, this plant is still alive and hopefully this shoot will produce flowers.
