Squakkio, the Baby Sasquatch

 

Oh my! My last blog post was in mid September! So much has happened since then!

I decided to finally make something with the lovely white faux fur I bought in Derby when I met up with Vanessa.

I started with some sketches and made my first baby Sasquatch.

The fur was a nightmare to cut! There were tons of hairs everywhere, every time i cut the fabric! I went to the balcony to cut. It was a really sunny and I was also getting warm from all the hard work, and the fur was sticking to my sweaty forearms. There were white hairs also allover my clothes and the best part was then i got hairs got into my eyes and onto my contact lenses!  It was a furry nightmare!!!!

I let Francesco choose a name for the the baby Sasquatch and he chose Squakkio. :)

Time for Ice-Cream!

The sun came out for a while today which was very nice! So I promised the little flowers they would have ice-cream as a treat.

I whisked them away so they could relax on the grass with their ice-creams but the sun did not stay out for long and turned grey and windy quite quickly.

And as soon as we got home, the sun popped out again! Sigh.. but they still enjoyed themselves :)

Today's Delivery!

Today I received my package from Amazon! I have been eagerly waiting for this package.
After our one weeks holiday in Italy last week it was clear I need to be more serious about learning Italian. The first thing I did was order a book and some more learning CDs.

 

I have collected a number of different books for learning Italian and each time I buy a book I always think - this will be THE ONE that will teach me Italian! I have learnt a few words hear and there and the grammar completely baffles me!

The First Thousand Words book, looks like a good and simple way of learning words. All the words are in Italian and has a picture to go with each word. However, I am mostly excited about the Berlitz Italian learning CDs! It includes flash cards, interactive games, multimedia learning audio and video and speech analysis. Should be fun!

And here are all my books and my other learning CDs. Oh, I'm missing one book. With their powers combined, I hope they will help me succeed in my mission to speak Italian! I have till December to improve, that is my target date to know at least the basics. Wish me luck!

 Meet another human subject, Jacob. The features I chose to capture are Jacobs glasses, fluffy hair and cheeky smile. Also Jacob is half Chinese, from Australia. So I gave him a slight tan :)

I made a little shirt for him  so he too is not naked. Can't have him running around naked!

A Special Flower for Vanessa

Last week I went to visit my good old friend, Vanessa. She recently discovered she is pregnant with her second child. I had to visit her! Since Vanessa really liked my Suki Flowers I made one especially for her. I choice a fabric that is very soft and fluffy.

 I was actually very nervous about making this flower, I wanted her to be perfect. And luckily
Vanessa loves her!

Vanessa has been making her own cushions, they are so lovely and colourful! Each one is hand-stiched! She didn't  use a sewing machine at all!

During the 5 days I was staying with Vanessa I kept saying I will take a picture with her together with her flower. And of course we didn't get around to it, so here is a photo of Vanessa with her father's enormous melons!

I do however have a picture of her husband, Chris, with her flower.

 I cannot wait to make something for her new little one!

I was going through old folders on my PC and stumbled across some paintings I did while i was working at Guerrilla. It is a scene of a jungle, I was painting to keep myself busy during the quite period.

I i was checking out my old work, a couple of the vampire donuts just jumped into my painting!

Vampire Donut has terribly itchy teeth!  But do not worry, he is a vegetarian! He will bite and suck but it is just be for fun. Give him some fruit and it will be devoured!

Hey Summer, where are you?

Today, has been warm here in London, but the sun is hiding.  It is now the end of July and Summer still has not yet kicked in! There have been a couple of days where summer made a brief appearance and it was hot, but then disappeared again.


Last week I started making some new flowers, I think the gloomy weather triggered a need for some cheer and colour. They certainly brightened up the place and cheered me up!

The first flower I made was back in 2008.  Miguel came up with a flower design for me and from that I  made a red flower and gave it to my Grandmother. I found this character so difficult to make, I decided I did not like them and that was the only one I made. This is the only picture I have of the flower.

 Then this year, the flower was spotted by Meca, a mother who was looking for some plushies for her 6 month old daughter. To my horror, I had to make another one. I had lost the pattern from the first one so had to start again from scratch. My flower nightmere began all over again!

However, I came up with a new and improved version which turns out to be not so bad now. :)

I even finished the Miguel Flower before I left Amsterdam. I must have made the head in 2008 but never got around to finishing the body. It was the perfect parting gift as he was the one to come up with the flower. I wish I could find the sketches he did for me. Miguel has also been a gigantic source of encouragement and inspiration since I met him. It was always tricky to arrange our workshops but when we did have them, they were jammed packed with cooking and eating and lots of drawing and crazy ideas. Workshop, Miguel, WORKSHOP!! :)
